I think how your supposed to do it is.

bring up networking then make the pcmcia stuff, run a script that runs ifcfg
to setup the networking correctly. This would then work if you inserted your
net card after boot.

Personally I run the pcmcia stuff before the networking....!

You might avoid errors by shutting down networking before pcmcia.

Try to do most scripts in reverse order.
