Hello,

This is the second time my 770Z needs to be repaired due to a
hardware problem (error 188 and 189). I suspect this may be caused
by a problem with the rear serial port, because in both cases, I was
using this serial port under Linux (the first time with an external
modem and the 2nd time with a palm pilot). The connection through
the serial port was running fine during the whole session. linux
was running cleanly without crashing nor warning me. But the laptop
simply refused to start again at next boot time. No diagnosis
was available in the bios after the msg number were printed.

I have been very careful on the way I connect the external devices.
I plug in the serial port always when the laptop is off.
So I'm perplex about what could have caused this problem. My IBM dealer
didn't give me explanation about the probable cause. Did you already
experience such problem ? And do you have any suggestion to avoid
it to happen again ? Thanks for your experience.

Best regards,
Fabrice
