[ltp] Need help getting linux installed on a Thinkpad 701C

I need help getting linux installed on a Thinkpad 701C.  I am trying to install Turbolinux 3.6 on my machine.  I have a Microsolution backpack parallel CD drive which the operating system is supposed to recognize.  I have booted up from boot disk and when it gets to were it trys to find the drive it can not.  Because this is an old laptop I have it hooked up to what IBM calls the multiport.  I have a friend who had OS/2 Warp so I loaded that and the drivers for this CD drive.  I was able to use the drive with no problems.  Turbolinux knows the drive but gives me autoprobe errors trying to find the drive.  I would love to have linux on this laptop but so far no luck.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.
