I could not agree more.
Your observations also contribute to the popularity of Linux on the
Thinkpad i.e. getting a complete development environment on a portable
machine. This is how I use my 770ED and how the others I know with
Linux on a 770 use theirs.

If IBM cut the 770 I think a significant number of Linux users
(including myself) may be looking elsewhere for a replacement machine.

I hope that some IBM people who subscribe to these lists might have a
little influence and point this out.

If not, what are the options, both IBM and other vendors? Any
suggestions?
I have to buy a new laptop (in addition to my 770, not a direct
replacement).
I want/need:
 a large hi-res screen
 big, swapable disks
 lots of RAM
 IR
 USB
 sound
 DVD
 a 56K modem that works ;-)

Every vendor I have looked at have a backlog on screens, so in-stock
would be a great advantage.

I'm just pointing out the lost revenue stream which also conflicts with
the much vaunted IBM support for Linux on TPs policy to anyone who's
listening...
