Hi,

Have you checked that you have a telnet server configured in /etc/inetd.conf ?
Have you also checked that you have installed the server ?

Have you checked that you are not using TCP Wrappers ? If you are using
Wrappers, do you have the correct entries in /etc/hosts.allow /etc/hosts.deny ?

Cheers,
Joe

Wayne:

I had the same problem im my laptop.
I'd tried to install all the other distributions with no success.
I put the problem in several lists whith no solution...

The solution:
I had to recompile the kernel. When I did it, I also remove the things I
did'n need to use - to get a smaller kernel.

after that the problem went away...

I had to install linux in others laptops getting the same problem in all
of them. and the recompilation works for all of them.

My configuration:IBM ethernet II pcmcia card, 28.8 IBM pcmcia modem and
thinkpad 760EL.

In my opinion this is a pre-compiled kernel problem.

PS: The distributions whith kernel 2.0.xx work fine.

regards.
