[ltp] 760EL Linux install

New to this list. It seems like there's a lot of useful info here, not to
mention nice people.

Bought a used 760EL Thinkpad last week. It's a little less than 2 years old,
and still a nice little machine - P133, 32 meg RAM, 2 gig HD, 12" TFT display,
20x CD ROM, IR port, etc.

Red Hat 6.1 froze early in the install. Mandrake 6.1 installed without any
problems, and even got X the first try. I had to manually configure the sound
card (using 'sndconfig'), but no problem here too. Now, gotta play around with
the modem, hoping it isn't a Winmodem.

As an aside, the only thing I dislike about Mandrake is that it installs xdm
and KDE by default, whether you specify it or not.
