As it was explained to me by Crystal, the Crystal driver for Windows takes
a more interesting approach (the low-level details of which have not been
given to me by Crystal). It seems that the Crystal driver uploads some code
to the Crystal DSP that allows the chip to run properly with the CLKRUN
protocol enabled.

If someone from ALSA contacted Crystal about that approach, maybe Crystal
would be willing to provide the details so that it could be implemented in
the ALSA drivers.
