Take a look into /proc/ide.  You probably now have ide2.
Dig a little more into /proc/ide/ide2.  Is there hde?
That is your cdrom drive.  So use /dev/hde, not /dev/hdc.
You might want to adust your symbolic link for /dev/cdrom
accordingly.
