I saw this before (probably fromm you :) and I looked at my kernel config
and saw that I had (I think) built my current kernel with  framebuffer
console support:

hjmlaptop:/usr/src/linux
102 % grep -i console .config
CONFIG_VT_CONSOLE=y
# CONFIG_SERIAL_CONSOLE is not set
# Console drivers
CONFIG_VGA_CONSOLE=y
# CONFIG_MDA_CONSOLE is not set

Is that what is meant?  If not what is the config variable that corresponds
to it?
and by "vga=775", I assume you mean add that to the lilo config with an
'append' line?

ie: head /etc/lilo.conf

# Start LILO global Section
append="mem=127M vga=775"
 .
 .
