[ltp] pcmcia start hangs up my i12

  Well you can try a newer kernel (preferably 2.4.x) or perhaps try editting 
the pcmcia settings in /etc/pcmcia/.  It might be touching another piece of 
hardware in a bad way?  In any case, it's not a good sign for this to happen.
