[ltp] T21 -- RH 7.1 no MPEGs with xmms

have just installed RedHat 7.1 from scratch on my T21. Except a few
minor glitches installation went smooth. One of the few things that
don't work is watching mpegs with xmms. When I start playing an mpeg,
sound comes through ok and a window opens for the video but only garbage
is displayed in this window. I have the following (relevant) packages
installed:

xmms-1.2.4-13
smpeg-xmms-0.3.3-1
xmms-gnome-1.2.4-13
xmms-devel-1.2.4-13

SDL-devel-1.1.7-3
SDL_mixer-devel-1.1.0-2
SDL-1.1.7-3
SDL_image-1.1.0-1
SDL_mixer-1.1.0-2
SDL_image-devel-1.1.0-1

I know xmms can visualize mpegs on this hardware I had it once up and
running with RedHat 7.0 and a manually installed XFree86-4.0.1 and some
of the intermediate develpment versions of the savage driver.

Does anybody have this running and can give some advice?
