I had originally sent this to the Mandrake expert list but received no
replies. I'm hoping for better luck here. The sound card is identified
as a Cirrus Logic CS 4610/11 [CrystalClear Sound Fusion Audio
Accelerator] (rev 01) by lspci. Any clues you can provide to get this
to work will be greatly appreciated.

TIA
Arnold

Subject: [expert] Sound on an IBM Thinkpad 600E

I am now the proud owner of a used IBM Thinkpad 600E. Last week I set
aside two hours to install Linux Mandrake 8.1 on it. Incredible! The
install went as well as I could wish for. Networking is working,
X-Windows is working, and apart from a bug I discovered in
MandrakeUpdate (more on that in another E-mail) even updating through
the company firewall is working. Now the problem. This computer comes
with a Cirrus Logic CS 4610/11 [CrystalClear SoundFusion Audio
Accelerator). I cannot get the appropriate kernel module to see the
device. It comes back with "No such device". I've tried both
"sndconfig" and "HardDrake" from the Control Center. No joy. I've
attached the output from "lspci -vvx" to this message. I've looked at
the documentation for this soundcard in
/usr/src/linux/Documentation/sound/cs46xx and I've looked at the six
discussions about the IBM Thinkpad 600E listed at the linux-for-laptops
web site. A google search also hasn't been successful so far but I'm
still looking. If you have managed to get sound working on your
Thinkpad, how did you do it?

Thanks in advance

Arnold
