In answer to your first question, kernel version is 2.4.8.  As for your
second question, I've tried the cs46xx module (that's what sndconfig set
up), and the alsa drivers which are what HardDrake tried to set up.  In
both cases what comes back when I try to load the modules is "no such
device".  I've kept the windows partition and have been looking at
resource assignments to the various devices and have tried changing a
few (both the ps2 utility and the IBM Thinkpad utility).  I realize that
the various devices are all plug and play but how are the resources
allocated to the various devices on your machine?
