That "+" is "+" on keypad.  To get that you need to 
enable NumLk.  Also as pointed out by Vivek, you need
to have other resolution defined in you XFree86Config
file.  It might also be necessary to add following line
in /etc/X11/xinit/Xmodmap to get NumLk working:

	keycode 77 = Num_Lock
