IRQ 9 is reserved in kernels 2.4.2-ac16 and up.

However, if you are using an earlier kernel and allocate IRQ 9
to the sound card, I think it ought to work.  IRQ 9 may indeed
be wired to the ACPI function of the chipset, but SFAIK the
interrupt isn't used.  I could be wrong, though.  Nevertheless,
most people are using IRQ 5 for the sound chip and I've
recommend you do the same.

If you are using the isa-pnp driver in Linux then it
is possible for Linux to do automatic PnP configuration.
You can alternatively use the manual "isapnp" command
from isapnptools.  Most people, however, just let the 
BIOS do PnP configuration.  They tell the BIOS how to
do this configuration by running PS2.EXE under DOS or
setpnp under Linux.
