Thanks much for the info, I will check with him as soon as possible and
get back to the list with the results.

I had earlier reported a similar problem with my T21 and it turned out
that this problem (getting a blank screen when switching to
console) goes away when I specify the following in my /etc/lilo.conf:

   vga=0x33b
   append="video=vesa:mtrr,ywrap"
