Hi, Ed.

It is possible to replace your TP600 CPU with
Mobile Pentium II 400MHz. There is actually a
shop which offers this kind of service in Japan.
Below is their website about the TP600 upgrade.
Probably you cannot read Japanese but I hope you
can guess what is written from some numbers.
http://www.maxuscomputer.com/msse/s_n_14_95.html

However, I don't know if there is a similar shop
in the US. If you try to upgrade by yourself,
you may encounter a lot of problems like,

1: You first need to obtain Mobile Pentium II
MMC-1 module. This is really rare nowadays
and can be very expensive even if you find it.
(I would expect something like $400-$500)

2: If you replace your CPU, the power consumption
will increase and this may kill your battery.
Actually, I have heard that one guy upgrade his
CPU from PenII 266MHz to 400MHz and the battery
   lifetime was halved.

3: I serched on the web and found that Japanese
people are quite ernest in this kind of upgrade
and modification. I mean, I couldn't any useful
information in any US sites and you may have the
   same difficulty.

I hope this info is helpful for you.

Cheers!
Shingo
