Nope, still can't play DVDs using xine and vlc (compiled as described by Dirk
Husemann). My dvd device is setup as:

lrwxrwxrwx    1 root     root            3 Feb 14 17:31 dvd -> hdc

Does Xvideo show up as one of the extensions when you type 'xdpyinfo'?
