If they've replaced both the cd drive and the mainboard (which I assume 
contains the connection hardware to the ultra bay), I can only imagine that 
there is some kind of power problem.  It seems weird that you don't see any 
other troubles though...

Are you *sure* they replaced the cd drive?
You are using different cds when you reproduce the error, right?

sounds like a real headache.
