No.

You can opt not to install the sensors package from the very beginning.
Having just done this yesterday while doing a reinstall of SUSE 7.1, I'm
certain of this, and as far as I can tell, nothing else depends on sensors
being installed.. At the page in YAST2 where you choose the kernel(s) and
package options to install, click on Custom install. IIRC, the sensors
package is found in the second program group listing, called Non-X
programs, and is listed as such - "Sensors". It's selected by default, so
once you locate it on the list for that group, simply double-click to
de-select it. No need to take a chance to install it only to uninstall it
at a later time.

Also, while speaking this morning with one of the laptop specialists at
SUSE about a graphics problem I'm having with my TP240, we discussed the
Sensors issue. (A few weeks after originally installing SUSE 7.1 two months
ago my TP died while running Linux, losing power abruptly and failing to
power up again. IBM EZServ had to replace the system board.) He had not
heard of the Sensors package being potentially fatal to certain Thinkpads,
and I referred him to this mailing list where I'd first learned of it But
he assured me that in SUSE Linux the only way to activate the Sensors
program is to manually run it.

So, if you want to avoid the possibility of ever doing that accidentally,
then don't install it.
