I am having a problem with an A21P and the floppy drive.
I am having similar problems that appear below, although I have
had no success at all in getting any kind of floppy formatted.
(I will need to be able to format large capacity floppies.

This is needed to create floppy disks for the Linux router project)

The specific system is A21P 2629 rr9 (referb 2929-H1U)
PIII 850, 128MB ram (upgraded to 384mb) 32GB hd, tft, DVD Modem.

I have had W98 installed , floppy worked ok
I now have Windows XP installed, floppy still works ok.
I tried installing to a separate hard disk, same results.

During the Debian install, it is not able to create a boot floppy.
I had the same problem with RedHat 5.2
I have updated the bios to 1.07 (contains XP support)
I have removed all extra memory (so only 128MB is installed)

No matter what I do, I cannot get the floppy to work.
Any ideas on what to try?

Thanks in advance!
Brent
(Note below is a copy of another user with the similar problem)
I tried all of the information below with no success.

I own A21p since one month and with a little help of my friend
I installed SuSE 7.1 (kernel 2.4) on my laptop. With 128MB RAM
it works fine. Now I have 512MB RAM and I experience problems
with floppy. Can not read/write properly. It brings I/O error
somewhere between 36 and 44 track out of 80 when I try to format
floppy. And not to mention that it works under Win2k.

I have allready tried
        floppy=NODMA
and
        floppy=thinkpad
as well as
        MEM=128M
Nothing helps.

And see the wonder:
        strace -ff -o /tmp/trash fdformat /dev/fd01440
works.

Looks like some kind of timing problem.

Do you have any idea about this fenomena?

Thank you in advance!

Dragan
