Try this, if your running devfs there should be a special device for
devfsd.

[Oolon on derilium] ls -alF /dev/.devfsd
crw------- 1 root root 8, 0 Jan 1 1970 /dev/.devfsd
[Oolon on derilium]

Have a look to see if the demon is running.

[Oolon on derilium] ps aux | grep devfsd
root 12 0.0 0.0 1408 108 ? S Sep18 0:00
/sbin/devfsd /dev
oolon 21091 0.0 0.1 1388 504 pts/4 S 13:26 0:00 grep devfsd
[Oolon on derilium]

Otherwise you should have lots of subdirs in /dev like this

[Oolon on derilium] ls -alF /dev/ide
total 0
drwxr-xr-x 1 root root 0 Jan 1 1970 ./
drwxr-xr-x 1 root root 0 Jan 1 1970 ../
drwxr-xr-x 1 root root 0 Sep 18 13:03 cd/
drwxr-xr-x 1 root root 0 Sep 18 13:03 hd/
drwxr-xr-x 1 root root 0 Jan 1 1970 host0/
[Oolon on derilium]

Hope this helps james
