Since my last posting I fixed the first problem with my configuration file.
X now starts up and there is no more trouble with the configuration file. X
doesn't work however.

Here are my notes regarding my problem:

Platform:

IBM Thinkpad A20p 2626-6CU

Installation Procedure:

Installed VMWare 2.0.4
Installed RedHat 6.2 (zoot) under VMWare
Installed VMWare tools for linux
(X Works perfectly at this point)
Installed XFree86 4.1.0 from binaries downloaded at xfree86.org (glibc 2.1.3
version)
Problem (X stops loading, needs Depth and fbbpp information for screen
device)
Configured XF86Config.vm (symbolic link /etc/X11/XF86Config points to this
file)
(X loads, but doesn't function)

Problem Description:

X produces the first screen but nothing further.

startx puts up a few windows, but the windows are not drawn properly; the
menu doesn't start up, etc... If you drag one of the windows it crashes with
the following error:

Fatal server error:
Caught signal 11. Server aborting

I think that upgrading X may have affected my window manager but I am not
sure how to diagnose or approach this problem. Do I need to re-install
gnome/kde? How should I do so.

Two files follow in message body; XF86Config.vm and XFree86.0.log.

Thanks a lot for your help,
-JohnF

# To customise the XKB settings to suit your keyboard, modify the

# XkbModel "pc102"
# If you have a US Microsoft Natural keyboard, you can use:
# XkbModel "microsoft"
#
# Then to change the language, change the Layout setting.

# XkbLayout "de"
# XkbVariant "nodeadkeys"

# If you'd like to switch the positions of your capslock and
