 This is normal, It's a buggy kernel patch for the 2.4.x kernel used during 
the install

 The problem is known for long on linux-mandrake.com.

 The solution is very simple, create a boot disk before the install with a 
2.2.x kernel in tha alternatives directory of the install CD. 

 So you will install using 2.2.x kernel, but, after the install, your 2.4.x 
kernel will work very well.
