You are right. BIOS sees my 40Gb drive as 8GB. Moreover it is printed
on label glued to the drive. There are two geometries listed on it - LBA32
one which shows real size, and one for old BIOSes.

This is no problem with Linux. Just create small boot partition which
reside in the first 8Gb (in my case it is 32Mb).

Once LILO loads the kernel (and LILO uses BIOS to do so)
BIOS limits are irrelevant.
