[ltp] mouse and keyboard in the ps2 port using a splitter?

I have a tp 600e, running mandrake 9.0.
I want to use the ps2 port at the back of the laptop to plug in both an 
external keyboard and an external mouse.
I bought an adapter for this to allow plugging in both the keyboard and 
the mouse.
Unfortunately only the mouse is picked up and works, the keyboard isn't 
picked up.
btw I dont have a windows partition so I don't have ps2.exe if that is 
needed.

Anyone done this before?
