Tell a friend to make you a boot disk, that's what I did.
If you are very risk-loving you could try vmware or wine, though I am 
not sure whether this will work, nor do I know of anybody who has tried 
it. If this fails during the update process, without finishing 
successfully, your system will be wrecked and will have to be sent in. 
As I said, I did not want to risk that, thus I asked a friend to make me 
a boot disk.
