I know it may not help but try to load windoze 98 and see if it still
freezes, I had to dig around a bit with loading linux on mine and ended
up putting mandrake 8.1 on it. Win me and 2k both froze mine at first.
Hope this helps

Subject: [ltp] frozen thinkpads

hi all!

i have a problem not related to linux but curious if someone have
actually had the same problems. to the problem --i have two machines
that freezes up when booting in different stages. this applies both to
win2k and linux. sometimes it even freezes at the bios stage. :(

it seems to have something to do with the power supply... cause
starting up without the ac adapter connected it works most of the
times but will freeze almost instantly when reconnecting it.

i have had ibm service here and they changed cpu, system board etc
etc, but they really don't know what's going on either. i though maybe
anyone at the most excellent mailing list, linux-thinkpad, would come
up with some reasonable explainations

well do ye? ;)

yours
/robert
