hehe - Linux Thinkpad =) (Sounded good at the time)

Anyway... I was reading another post and decided sound could be cool on my
thinkpad... so i did some net research and did this:
/sbin/modprobe sound
/sbin/insmod uart401
/sbin/insmod sb io=0x220 irq=5 dma=1 dma16=-1
/sbin/insmod mpu401 io=0x330
/sbin/insmod opl3 io=0x388
/sbin/insmod v_midi

Now this did turn my sound on but it is scratchy and doesn't sound good so,
Is there a way to make it sound good? and How do I make it load at startup
(preferrably without using the rc.local file (There should be a better way
than that))

btw... the sound board is the ESS1688 in the 760XL's
