I was going to suggest that Steven check out the Linux on Laptops site.  The
specific address for IBM Thinkpads is:
http://www.linux-on-laptops.com/ibm.html

There are 5 entries for the 600E -- one of which is the official IBM web
page.  The experiences are based on older stuff -- mostly RH 6 and 7.1.  It
would certainly be interesting to get something current like Mandrake 8.1
and 8.2.
