To get rid of that, edit this file:

/usr/src/linux-2.4.18-3/Makefile 

At the beginning of the file, change

EXTRAVERSION = -3custom

to 

EXTRAVERSION = -3

... and you'll get rid of the error. The driver works after you "make
install" and copy the script over (as in the mini-howto).

If the driver didn't work, the list won't get this message. :)
