you don't have to reconfigure your kernel.
you DO need sources for it (kernel source rpm is on cd-rom 1)
after you install the kernel source
go to 
/usr/src/linux-2.4.18-3/ (or whatever your kernel version is /
and edit the Makefile 
from


/usr/src/linux-2.4.18-3/Makefile 


At the beginning of the file, change


EXTRAVERSION = -3custom


to 


EXTRAVERSION = -3

thank go to your 
directory where you downloaded and untared the lates dirver
mwavem-1.0.3

./configure --help
and then
./configure --with-linuxsrcdir=/usr/src/linux-2.4.18-3   --enable-mwavedd

then 
make
then 
make install
That should be it.
