I also have ML9.0 on a 600e. Oddly enough, sound appears to work in Gnome 
but not on KDE. My experience with the drivers is summarized below

Driver          Working?
SB              Yes (Gnome only, no midi)
cs4232          Yes (Gnome only, no midi)
snd-cs4232      No
snd-cs4236      No

I am curious to know if you experience the same problem?
