On Red Hat 7.3, it lives in /sbin.  Mandrake may be similar

[user@tycho user]$ locate chkconfig
/usr/share/man/man8/chkconfig.8.gz
/sbin/chkconfig

If all else fails, you can run the mwave script file from
/etc/rc.d/rc.local ...

Glad the modem works!
