Its not *that* bad. And there's usually a workaround -- on
debian (testing/unstable)

hardy:/home/jjg# strings `which visudo` | grep bin
/bin/mv
/usr/local/sbin:/usr/local/bin:/usr/sbin:/usr/bin:/sbin:/bin:/usr/X11R6/bin
/usr/sbin/sendmail
/usr/bin/editor
hardy:/home/jjg# ls -l /usr/bin/editor
lrwxrwxrwx    1 root     root           24 Jun 28  2001 /usr/bin/editor
-> /etc/alternatives/editor
hardy:/home/jjg# ls -l /etc/alternatives/editor
lrwxrwxrwx    1 root     root           12 Jul 23 14:16
/etc/alternatives/editor -> /usr/bin/jed
hardy:/home/jjg#

Yuck -- I much prefer vi.

So it just takes the changing of a symbolic link in order
to change the editor.
