I have a strange problem with XMMS on my ThinkPad600. Does anyone know how
to fix it? Thanks!

Steps:
(1) rpm -e xmms and other plugins ;

(2) I went to GURUlabs and downloaded
xmms-1.2.7-13.p.i386.rpm
xmms-mp3-1.2.7-13.p.i386.rpm (mp3 plugin)
xmms-skins-1.2.7-13.p.i386.rpm (skin package)
xmms-devel-1.2.7-13.p.i386.rpm (devel package)

(3) rpm -ivh xmms-1.2.7-13.p.i386.rpm and the other plugins

(4) run "xmms". it does NOT work!

(5) then,  [Preferences] --> [Audio I/O Plugins] --> [Output Plugin] -->
[ARts
Driver (libartsout.so)], xmms plays mp3 songs but without sound! and I got "
mcop warning: user defined signal handler found for SIG_PIPE, overriding".
    when I choose [ OSS Driver 1.2.7 (libOSS.so) ],  I got "** WARNING **:
oss_open(): Failed to open audio device (/dev/dsp): Device or resource busy"
and also a dialogue box jumps out saying "Couldnpt Open Audio. Please check
that: 1. You have the correct output plugin selected; 2. No other programs
are blocking the soundcard; 3. your soundcard is configured properly."
I have searched on google, some other people have similar problems, but
seems no success.

Other  information:
(a) I used "killall artsd" but it didn't work.
(b) I have also tried the 1.2.7-13, but it didn't work either.
(c) Linux version: Red Hat8.0, kernel version 2.4.18-14
(d) using 1.2.7-13 OR 1.2.7-13.p, xmms can play CD very well.
(e) the mp3 songs tested are all on the harddisk.

Thanks for your time!
