I just can't seem to get my IBM A30 laptop to use the modem. I am
running Beyond Linux From Scratch (BLFS), with kernel 2.4.22-rc2 and
acpi-20030813-2.4.22-rc2. I have tried both slmdm-2.7.14 and
slmdm-2.7.9. I continue to see this error message in my
/var/log/kern.log file:

---------------------------------------------
Aug 24 00:50:18 localhost kernel: slmdm: version 2.7.9 Jan 26 2003
16:47:22 (Smart Link Ltd.).
Aug 24 00:50:18 localhost kernel: slmdm: country set is 0xb5 (USA).
Aug 24 00:50:18 localhost kernel: Smart Link AMRMO modem.
Aug 24 00:50:18 localhost kernel: amrmo: probe 8086:2486 Intel Corp.
82801CA/CAM AC'97 Modem Controller : ICH card...
Aug 24 00:50:18 localhost kernel: PCI: Setting latency timer of device
00:1f.6 to 64
Aug 24 00:50:50 localhost kernel: This driver is not compatible with the
installed modem codec.
Aug 24 00:50:50 localhost kernel: Please contact your modem provider for
support.
---------------------------------------------

the last part, "
This driver is not compatible with the installed modem codec" is
repeated everytime I try to echo anything to /dev/modem.

Any suggestions? I've looked over the list and found help to get me
this far, but it just still doesn't seem to work for me.

Thanks,
DB
