OK, here is a first trial version of thinkpad 5.0. To get it,
go to http://sourceforge.net/projects/tpctl/ and download
thinkpad_4.999-trial1.tar.gz and then follow the appropriate
set of instructions below.

To build -base and -source packages, first make sure that the devscripts
and fakeroot packages are installed so that you can run the debuild
program. Then,

    tar zxf thinkpad_4.999-trial1.tar.gz
    cd thinkpad-5.0
    debuild -us -uc

To install the packages you have just built, do the following
as root:

    dpkg -i <the-base-package> <the-source-package>

To build a -modules-2.6.0 package,

    cd /usr/src
    rm -rf modules/thinkpad
    tar zxf thinkpad.tar.gz
    cd linux-2.6.0
    make-kpkg --rootcmd=fakeroot modules-image

To install the -modules-2.6.0 package, do the following as root:

    dpkg -i <the-modules-2.6.0-package>

other distros

To build the modules, make sure that you are running Linux 2.6.0
and then,

    tar zxf thinkpad_4.999-trial1.tar.gz
    cd thinkpad-5.0
    ln -s 2.6/drivers .
    ln -s 2.6/include .

To install them, do the following as root:

    make install

Thinkpad modules version 5.0 should work fine with tpctl version 4.

This release was made possible by Michael Hagemann and Bernd Zeimetz.
Thanks, guys.

Please report bugs to me or to this list.
