I'm currently using WindowMaker on top of RedHat 7.3 on my trusty 600E with 288MB RAM (2x128MB and 1x32MB onboard). It flies pretty quick. Up until the day before yesterday I was using Gnome with the Sawfish window manager, and it was pretty speedy too. I needed a change, and had recently ditched CDE on my Solaris machine in favor of WindowMaker, so decided to give it a chance on Linux.

WindowMaker takes a little getting used to, as it doesn't have some of the convenience features of Gnome or KDE. For instance, adding items to the start menu, while it has a GUI, is a manual process, and many RPMs don't automagically put themselves in, as in Gnome. But you can't beat the number and quality of dockapps...

As far as modem, sound, and video, I currently have all of them working properly, using information gleaned from this list. Check the archives.
