Subject: [work] [ltp] T21 freezes

| Hi,
| I am using a thinkpad T21 with win2k and linux installed.
| I am experiencing serious problems with system freezes,
| especially in linux. The freezes are quite reproducible.
|
| In win2k the freezes are rare, and mostly occur when I use
| the media player and I resize the player's window, or I click
| on the seek bar to jump forward or backward. But really they
| are not much of a problem.
|
| In linux on the other hand, the freezes are very frequent.
| They occur only when I am running X. Again the system freezes
| very easily when I resize or shade some window. But they also
| occur even if I don't do any interactive work (eg only xmms is
| playing some mp3s). This renders linux pretty much unusable.
|
| Has anybody experienced similar problems? Could the problem be
| some linux kernel paramer or some bad settings in X configuration
| file?
|
|
| TIA
|
| Manolis
I think standard answer #1 is - some memory is bad. Try running a memory diagnostic (lots of free
windows tools)
#2 - irq conflict in linux?
