Most people don't seem to need to uncomment these at all.  Why not
configure the modem using PS2.EXE (the thinkpad's BIOS setup utility) and
be done with it?  The modem should then work under Linux or Windows.

What errors do you get (either on the console or shown with dmesg) when
you activate the mwave?  What distribution / kernel of Linux are you
using?  If PS2.EXE won't solve your problem, a little more info on what
the problem is would help. :)
