[ltp] to time the disk or not to ... that is the question ??

All,

I have a TP 600x running rh 8.0. I recently enabled the disk power down 
timer and noticed writes about every 10 sec or so. The timer was set 
such that it was turning off and on several times per minute.

What is the consensus for tpctl --ptd ??
How often do your disks turn off and on??
