Is that still true, even of the new-style "hotplug" drivers?
These don't work in with David Hinds's old pcmcia system, afaik.

An update on my problems with memory_cs.o and my old pcmcia memory
card: the kernel-pcmcia README-2.4 says:

  Some of the less widely used client drivers, like the memory card
  drivers, have not been ported into the 2.4 driver tree yet.

There's a dormant redhat bug filed on the subject which I'm trying
to revive:
