ok, i did this before starting X, but still the same.
i run xev, press the FN key, fn+anything, but nothing happens as if
i hadn't pushed any keys. 
where could be the problem. anyway, the fn key works fine for
e.g. controlling the volume.
again, i have a 600e on debian unstable, kernel 2.4.21.
