OK, here's the status.

First of all, thanks for the link to that manual. It's amazing. Reminds me of the service manual on BMW's. 

Secondly, I ordered that TP600 from Ebay, and it *was* a complete laptop for $69, not just the LCD! And it boots, and seems to run. So, I have a replacement machine at least.

Thirdly, I've had no luck bringing the 600E back to life. I dismantled it, put it to sit out in the sun, made sure it was nice and dry, and... no power-on anymore. Bummer. I'll try again in a week or two perhaps. Or, just sell off the "good" parts.
