IO_support just toggled between 16-bit and 32-bit IDE support. You
probably won't notice much difference between the two. "hdparm -c 1
/dev/hda" would turn it on.

The changes don't survive a reboot. SuSE sets DMA mode from
/etc/rc.d/boot.idedma startup script, although it is probably enabled
automatically by the kernel. You could either edit that to also turn on
unmaskirq, or you might put it in an rc.local (or boot.local), depending
on what distribution you're running.

I tried turning the unmaskirq on ... hard to tell if it helps ;). Two
questions though. IO_support is off on my system, what is it and how do I
turn it on?

Also, do these parameter changes survive a reboot?

thanks for the help!
