[ltp] 600x sound question ??

All,

I am running RH 8.2 on a 600x. I would like to capture sound mic input 
however sound mic input flows straight through to the speakers. The app 
doesn't complain about improper config, however it does not pick up the 
input??

Is this a h/w config parameter? If not what linux app is doing this??
