That's what I guessed...I didn't know if there was another internal
battery that would maintain suspend mode while the main battery was
swapped.

Can it be swapped in either suspend or hibernation mode?

yes (there's even a battery capacity icon in KDE's "task" tray)

Haven't tried this one yet...I have both wired and wireless LAN access
in my house, so I never use the modem.  Both of the wired and wireless
PC card NICs were recognized with no configuration on my part.
