1. Backup you Xserver config files (/etc/X11)

2. completely (purge) the xserver-xfree86 package, with the purge
fuction of your favourite apt frontend or with apt-get purge
xserver-xfree86

3. Reinstall xserver-xfree86

This should give you a fresh Xserver installation.
