[ltp] video settings/xscreensaver

I'm running Mandrake 9.1 (2.4.21) on a Thinkpad T40 (2373-75U).. This has a 
Radeon 7500 card/32M and a 1024x768 internal LCD.  I have a Sony 19" LCD 
monitor with 1280x1024 resolution.  XFree 4.2 was configured automatically. 
When I use the external monitor, I keep the TP closed so the internal monitor 
is off.  XScreensaver works, but when displaying to the external monitor it 
draws only at 1024x768 resolution.  Any ideas how to fix?
